What I Think

I finally went to go pick up my comics after a month of not picking them up cause of financial issues. Previously I mentioned that I was beginning to think I was wasting my money on Final Crisis. I decided to still pick up Final Crisis in hopes that it will get better. I notified a friend that I had finally picked up my comics. He asked “thoughts?” So what are my thoughts?

Well as soon as I picked up my comics I went to read Final Crisis 4. I liked it in that I found it interesting. It is kind of interesting to see evil getting ahead and everything looking so bleak. How are our heroes going to get out of this? The thing with Turpin and Darkseid made me think of this episode of Superman the animated series. Odd I know and yes I do have weird associations. I might be the only one who thinks so, but I’m not excited that Barry Allen is back. This is only because it takes away a drama element for the future. What is the point of being in awe of someone making the ultimate sacrifice if they are just going to come back to life? Also Final Crisis 4 is set up so that I pretty much have to read the tie-ins to get a better understanding of what is going on, cause even though I read the first three issues and some of the tie-ins I was still kind of wondering what the hell was going on and what did I miss. This makes me unhappy in that I might have to abandon my initial idea of dropping all the tie-ins. I went back and read Resist and Submit and filled in some holes. Rage of the Red Lanterns is just another way for DC to get my money. The tie-in should have just been a Green Lantern issue not a tie-in special. Nothing special about it.

It annoys the hell out of me that the rest of DCU is not caught up with Final Crisis. What is up with the Darkside Club? How does it factor in to anything? It is so distracting to read everything that is going, Batman R.I.P., Kingdom Come, and Darkside Club stuff, and know that the big thing is supposed to be Final Crisis. So how is it going to come together?

After being caught up with Final Crisis I had a flashback to when I was in San Diego at the Final Crisis panel and I asked a question about continuality and the New Gods being in human bodies. Grant Morrison responded with something about Darkseid being killed and his energies being in our reality for the first time. I admit that I cannot remember his response word from word, but I knew right then and there that the man was crazy and in the right profession. Anyway he was kind of telling the truth, wow ok.

Very quickly I will do a quick rundown on some of the other comics I have read so far:

Green Arrow and Black Canary #12: sucked. Thank goodness Winick has moved on because I was getting tired of him ruining my favorite couple.

JLA #26: The Brown Bomber made it amusing. Ok issue and story.

DC Decisions #4: Not worth my money which I kind of knew at the end of #3.

Teen Titans #64: Not all that great and I’m still waiting for Static.

The Titans #7: I want to say I did not like it. I have not really liked any of the issues up to this point. The story concepts seemed interesting but were blaaaahhhhhh. I just want my questions about Jericho answered. The main one being, what is up with him? There should be a special explaining how he came to be how he now.

JSA #20 and Magog: The shining lights in my pulls.

Mortal Kombat vs. DCU: Not a comic but having to do with comics. I enjoy playing it very much.

Overall so far I feel as though only DC Decisions was not worth my time. Even issues I felt sucked were mildly entertaining and I do want to see what happens next. I spent a lot of time complaining about it, but I am enjoying Final Crisis. I do not think it is oh so powerful of a story, but it is good and entertaining.
