Jocelyn Saddler Presents:
I’m sorry- I know I’m supposed to be reviewing vampire books, but I had to take a moment to go over who will be wearing Batman’s cowl. I still think Jason Todd should be taking over for Bruce because he should get some kind of “moment.” Instead he is being exceptionally psychopathic, but that is not the point of this. The point is Batman is a narcissist.
Last Wednesday before I was maliciously joked and my pulls were threatened to be canceled because I thought Static Shock was a good show (and it was thank you very much) I was having a conversation about Battle for the Cowl #2. At the time I hadn’t read it but have read it now. Still that’s not the point. The point is that apparently there are rumors of Terry McGinnis taking over for Batman. Yeah the dude from the Batman Beyond cartoon is rumored to be coming over to the comics to take over and be the new Batman. A bit of background information since the show has been off the air for a few years. Batman Beyond was a WB cartoon series that takes place in the future. Bruce Wayne is an old man and has retired from vigilantism, but before he did he built a high tech bat-suit. Terry McGinnis is a teenager who after suffering a great loss runs into Bruce and takes over as the future Batman, Bruce acts as his mentor. Pretty good show. The big thing is that the last episode of Justice League Unlimited was basically an epilogue for Batman Beyond. It is revealed that Amanda Waller decided that there should pretty much always be a Batman. She took Bruce’s DNA attached it to nanobots that rewrote the genetic DNA of one Warren McGinnis who was supposed to be Terry’s “father.” Terry has half of Bruce’s DNA and half from his mom. He is Bruce’s genetic son. I was saying clone at first, but then I went back and checked and he’s not a clone just a good genetic match. So during the conversation it was said there are rumors that Terry McGinnis will be wearing the Batman cowl. Something about only Bruce can be Batman. It could be possible because Bruce Wayne is that narcissistic. Hell the writers always make him that narcissistic. Just like during No Man’s Land when Bruce wanted everyone to stay out of HIS city and he didn’t need any help. He really needed help. He always claims to never need help or is right all the time. The ominous dark I’m always right and kick ass figure lurking in the corner, AKA Batman AKA Bruce Wayne. I hate to admit it, but I cannot really imagine anyone taking over for Bruce. There is that whole “big three” rule, but someone else could pass themselves off as Wonder Woman, Donna Troy, and the buzz would be minimal. Superman is different, but that is because of the perception that no one is as powerful as him to take over. It’s funny that Batman who is a really rich guy without any special powers seems impossible to replace. |
