Elliott Serrano Presents:

Can I tell you something? I just don’t get this.

I mean, how is it that the idea of guys holding a female zombie in a basement to exploit and have sex with has entered the teen zeitgeist?

The film DEADGIRL deals with exactly that, although I’m aware that the themes the film explores are a bit more complex than that. But c’mon…

HAVING SEX WITH ZOMBIES!?!?

Yeah, you can rebut by saying that the movie is an allegory for how one feels powerless during adolescence. You can say that the film is a commentary on the lack of moral direction many believe that today’s youth have. You can even say that it’s a cautionary tale about the perils of intercourse with the undead.

Again…c’mon!

There are going to be some fanboys who are going to watch this movie thinking: cool. Sex with zombies!

Seriously. I almost know that for a fact.

What is it about the fanboy view of male/female relationships that it’s gotten to the point where this sort of objectification passes off as power fantasy? Where the female character is completely devoid of a will of her own? Is that the way fanboys want it?

Why is it so hard for us to simply relate to girls/women as the people they are?

Why do we have to allow ourselves to be the butt of jokes where we’re portrayed as socially inept and awkward dolts who don’t know how to talk to the opposite sex? As if they were literally from Venus?

Man, what’s the problem guys?

THEY’RE PEOPLE TOO! They have all the same doubts, fears, anxieties and emotions that we do. Is that really so hard to comprehend?

And believe you me, I do love the ladies. But I love them for all the challenges they can pose as partners and adversaries, teammates and opponents. I love women with opinions and passion, fire and gusto. I love women who are ALIVE!

Screw the zombie chicks.

Or is that what you’d prefer?

Elliott Serrano is a comic book writer/columnist/fanboy who has never considered sex with a zombie. He is also not interested in making out with a werewolf or necking with a vampire. Yes, he said ‘necking.’

You can read his blog or check out his YouTube Channel for more bad jokes and puns.
