Follically Challenged Productions Presents:
Here’s an interesting fact that you probably didn’t already know: I haven’t had any new comics writing gigs for about six months now. Sure, I’ve been working hard on a new Vertigo OGN for several months, but that was already in progress when the dry spell hit. For the purposes of this story, I’m not counting it. The point is this: for a writer with very little actual work, I’ve been ridiculously busy. Let’s start with www.wideawakeonline.com - sure, there’s not much there right now, but I’ve been working quite diligently with Eric Trautmann, Mirco Pierfederici and David Messina in the pursuit of making sure something goes there very soon. We’re starting a serial webcomic, and it’s taking a hell of a lot of planning, preparation and good old-fashioned nose-to-the-grindstone business to get the thing up and running. Did I mention that CWR guru Marc Mason and I have written a play? No? Oh, well…we did. And we’re continuing to, really. This is a major thing for both of us, and we both know that the process will take some time to reach its true greatness. It’s getting there. Another project undergoing slow growth is RADIO WASTELAND, soon to be a new feature here at CWR. Miss Jessica and I met while working in the radio business, and this new podcast show we’re planning will take us back to the spirit of those early days. We don’t want to unleash it upon the world until it’s been perfectly cooked and garnished with all the fixins, as it were…but it’s coming. In the meantime, I still have to perform the due diligence of a regular comic writer. An absence of new work means a search for new work, and that’s nearly a full time job in and of itself. In fact, I think it’s time to go e-mail another editor and check in on the 80-bajillion pitches I have out there in the ether right now. Let this be a lesson, kids: even when you’re not working, you should be working. It’s the only way the dream can happen. If you build it, they will come. Insert another random fortune cookie cliché here…
